Our story began with an image of a blank wall and asking community, “What can you image on this space?”. The Monto Magic Art Trail transformed our town into a living storybook, using murals, silo art, water tower artworks and public spaces to celebrate the people, places and experiences that have shaped Monto and Three Moon Country. The trail shares stories of First Nations heritage, local legends, agriculture, community resilience, family life and regional identity in a way that is accessible and engaging for residents and visitors alike. By turning everyday spaces into an open-air gallery, the trail invites people to engage with our heritage, culture and identity in an inclusive and memorable way. It is more than an art trail, it is a community-led celebration of storytelling that ensures local voices, memories and traditions continue to inspire future generations. The Monto Magic Art Trail shows Australia how one community’s story can become everyone’s story, building understanding, connection and pride through the shared language of art, but it wasn’t without challenges.
