Regional Women Collective (RWC) was founded on a simple belief: regional Australia will be stronger when leadership is intentionally passed between generations, not left to chance. Today, 52% of regional community leaders are women, yet only 7% can access formal leadership development and just 19% of regional board seats are held by women.
RWC closes that gap through a practical suite of programs, all built on our own Regional Women’s Leadership Framework. Our Leadership Lunch Series brings women together locally to connect across age and industry. Our Mentoring Program pairs emerging leaders with experienced women who deliberately pass on knowledge, networks and confidence. Our 360 Leadership Assessment and executive coaching build capability against named leadership competencies, including Talent Development and Succession Planning. The Regional Table podcast then carries these intergenerational conversations beyond our members, amplifying regional women’s voices nationally.
We are starting in the Snowy Monaro, our founding chapter, launching in August 2026 as proof of concept for this model, with the founding chapter program beginning that October and an Emerging Leaders Program following in early 2027. Snowy Monaro is a region of agriculture, energy, tourism and healthcare, with women already leading across every sector — an ideal place to prove that intentional, intergenerational leadership transfer works.
Our long-term vision is national. By 2028, we plan to have expanded to ten regional chapters across NSW, Victoria and Queensland. By 2030, RWC aims to be Australia’s leading regional leadership platform: a proven, evidence-based model with a university research partnership measuring long-term outcomes, an established leadership succession pipeline keeping knowledge inside regional communities, and strong corporate, government and philanthropic partnerships sustaining its growth.
RWC is building the leadership infrastructure regional Australia has been missing: a connected ecosystem where every generation both learns and teaches, so leadership knowledge, relationships and opportunity stay in our regions.
Regional Women Collective launches its founding chapter in the Snowy Monaro in 2026, so this reflects the impact we are setting out to create, not one already delivered.
Today, just 7% of regional women can access formal leadership development, despite making up 52% of regional community leaders and holding only 19% of regional board seats. RWC exists to close that gap by intentionally passing leadership between generations.
In Year 1, we are targeting 150+ women connected through our chapter and mentoring network, delivered through 12 leadership programs a year pairing emerging leaders with experienced women ready to invest in those coming behind them. Early program measurement is targeting an 85% increase in participant confidence, direct evidence that intergenerational mentoring builds real leadership capability, not just connection.
We expect this transfer of knowledge, networks and confidence to convert into real career progression, targeting 40+ board and executive appointments among our community within three years, regional leadership knowledge staying in regional hands rather than being lost to the cities.
This exchange will also break down the silos separating industries and generations, as women leading businesses, farms, schools, health services, local government and community organisations build trusted relationships and act together on shared regional challenges. We estimate this compounding model will generate $2.4M in economic value per cohort, and support expansion to 6 regional chapters within three years, carrying this intergenerational approach beyond the Snowy Monaro to communities across regional Australia.
Together, these targets will demonstrate that regional Australia's leadership can be intentionally passed forward, generation to generation, rather than left to chance, strengthening our organisations, our community and the future of the region.
